Christina Aabo is bringing a wealth of experience from the wind energy industry to our board. Her previous roles include Head of R&D at Ørsted and Vice President for Product Management at Vestas. Luckily for us she has recently decided to leave active service and start her own company where she can offer her expertise in an advisory capacity.
Christina recently visited us in Gothenburg and we grabbed the chance to ask a few questions.
Q: What made you want to join Modvion as a board member?
I would like to push new, innovative concepts in the wind energy industry as working only on scaling up existing technologies will not make it. A very efficient way to make real change and do it fast is by strengthen the disrupting companies from the top at board level.
Q: What do you think is the most exciting part of Modvion’s product?
The most exciting part of the Modvion product is the raw material itself! Even being an engineer, it take a mind-twist to understand that good old steel can be replaced by wood. To imagine wood structures of 150 meters that are handling the dynamics of a wind turbine blows my mind.
Well… the whole process of producing from plain spruce to laminated plates, to curved modules and sections, transported on standard equipment and all assembled at site are rather exciting too.
Q: You have so much experience in the wind power industry, how have you seen it change over the years?
Of course I have seen and been part of pushing the changes over the years with the multi-dimensional growth. The wind energy market has expanded from onshore, to both onshore and offshore including floating. From being located mainly in Northern Europe, to globally with decent wind climates. From tiny turbines to giant turbines, from clusters or parks of turbines to real wind power plants. From producing when it blows to be grid supporting and delivering energy on demand with new technologies for energy storage and Power-2-X. The next challenge is to tackle full sustainability including circularity.
Q: If you could give us one piece of advice what would it be?
To design Modvion to be able to focus both on developing and validating the technology/product while at the same time interacting externally with potential customers and their customers to drive the commercial market. It’s important to be ready timely with the first commercial products.
Thank you for chatting with us Christina, we’re thrilled to have you on board!
