On 14 May 2025, Modvion had the honour of participating in Sweden’s National Day celebration at Expo 2025 Osaka as part of Team Sweden — representing the country’s commitment to sustainable innovation and global collaboration.
We were proud to attend as one of the nominees for the inaugural Pioneer Prize, with our CEO Otto Lundman representing Modvion on-site at the Expo. The nomination alone was a recognition of our work in pushing the boundaries of sustainable design and renewable energy infrastructure.
Hosted under the theme “Join Sweden to Pioneer the Possible,” the day brought together government leaders, innovators, and business representatives to highlight Sweden’s forward-looking solutions and strengthen ties with international partners — especially Japan.
A Global Stage for Innovation
Expo 2025 is one of the largest international events of the decade, set in Osaka, Japan, with more than 160 participating countries, 28 million visitors expected, and a strong focus on co-creating future societies.
Sweden is taking part through the Nordic Circle, a joint pavilion shared with Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Iceland. The Nordic Circle places sustainability, innovation, and collaboration at the heart of the experience. At its center stands a remarkable wooden ring — a powerful symbol of circularity and cooperation, constructed from sustainable materials and designed to spark dialogue and shared progress.
Sweden’s National Day at Expo
The National Day program was led by an official delegation including HM King Carl XVI Gustaf, Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa, and Jacob Wallenberg, Chairman of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, who led a broad business delegation.
The day showcased Sweden’s leadership in innovation, clean technology, and cross-sector cooperation. For Modvion, it was an opportunity to engage with stakeholders, explore partnerships, and contribute to Sweden’s global message: that pioneering sustainable solutions is not only necessary, but possible.
Recognizing Swedish Innovation: The Pioneer Prize
One of the highlights was the announcement of the first Pioneer Prize — a new award recognizing Swedish innovations with the potential to create significant global impact. We congratulate Green Iron on being named the first-ever Pioneer Prize winner!
We’re proud to have been nominated alongside a remarkable group of innovators: Candela, Neola Medical, Blue Ocean Closures, CorPower Ocean, Elonroad, and Cemvision. Together, we represent the depth and breadth of Swedish ingenuity aimed at solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
Building a Sustainable Future
At Modvion, we believe the future of renewable energy infrastructure must be sustainable at every level — from the materials we use to the partnerships we build. Our presence at Expo 2025 was a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and how much more is possible when we collaborate across borders.
Sweden’s message to the world — Pioneer the Possible — is one we carry with pride. We’re grateful to be part of this journey and excited about the global momentum toward a greener, smarter future.
