Modvion was honored to be part of Saint Lucia’s Nobel Laureate Festival, an event celebrating the legacy of the nation’s Nobel Laureates, Sir Derek Walcott and Sir Arthur Lewis. As part of Sweden’s official presence at the festival, Erik Dölerud, Senior Development Engineer at Modvion, was introduced by Ambassador Anders Bengtcén, to deliver a lecture on innovation and entrepreneurship.
During his presentation, Erik shared the journey of Modvion and its mission to accelerate the global transition to renewable energy. He highlighted how Modvion’s wind turbine towers—crafted from laminated wood—are transforming the wind power industry by offering a more sustainable, cost-effective, and scalable solution for wind energy production. These towers, the tallest of their kind, represent a breakthrough in engineering and sustainability, reducing carbon footprints while enabling the expansion of wind energy infrastructure.
Provide the right context and a small country can make a big impact
Erik also talked about his personal journey, from his childhood in Värmland to his studies at Chalmers and later his engineering career which has involved several innovative technologies. He points factors like social security, education for all and support for innovation as examples of why there are so many innovations coming from a relatively small country like Sweden.
The event attracted an audience of students in higher education, aspiring entrepreneurs, and business owners eager to explore engineering and sustainability solutions. Erik’s insights sparked conversations about the intersection of technology, environmental impact, and economic opportunity. It was reflected in the lively Q&A, where attendees posed thoughtful questions about Modvion’s pioneering technology, the structural advantages of laminated wood, and the key factors needed to foster innovation in renewable energy.
Thank you to everyone who participated and to the Swedish Foreign Office for the invitation. It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and curiosity of Saint Lucia’s next generation of innovators. As the global community continues to push the boundaries of sustainable development, we look forward to seeing how these bright minds contribute to a cleaner, greener future.
